Join us on December 6th at noon when World War II expert Joan Reichardt will take us back to Christmas on the warfront.
Joan Reichardt is a teacher at Augusta High School, specializing in World War II history. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Masters of Arts in Teaching Social Studies from Emporia State. She began her teaching career in Augusta. This is her thirty-fourth year in education. Reichardt’s father was a WWII vet. He was in the Navy at the very end of the war and saw no action but he was at Bikini Atoll the summer of 1946 for Operation Crossroads, the test of two atomic bombs on naval vessels. She understands that the WWII generation was the greatest generation and their sacrifices should be held as an example for current and future generations. “WWII is the watershed event of modern history,” she says. “The lesson we should have learned from the events of WWII and the Holocaust must be taught and hopefully not ignored now or in the future.
Enjoy a half hour of coffee and conversation. Learn how our heroes spent their holidays. Then stick around to help us decorate our Christmas tree.
