Help us celebrate America's Semiquincentennial: 250 Years of American Freedom

World War II History Center will unveil a new display on July 4, 2026. We need your help to make it happen. We are gathering forty stories of the Greatest Generation of Kansas Families. 

Please send us the story  and photo (if available) of your battle front or home front hero. To be considered for the display, your story should include the following

• First and last name

• Date of Birth and, if deceased,  Date of Death 

• Military rank, years and location of service (if applicable)

• A brief description or summary of a wartime event or memory (if available)

• A favorite memory of family or friends

• Kansas Connection

• No more than 500 words

• Single-spaced, Times New Roman

• A photo (please provide us with a copy of the photo, so you can keep the original.)

Submit your story and copy of photo by email to dmcnemee@wwiihistorycenter.org. You can also mail it to us or drop it by in person at

We will host two research and writing workshops for anyone wanting help in composing your stories. Watch the website and our social media for more information.
